Get connected.
Stay in control.

Start with one Android Primary connected to Hog. Pair additional devices as Workstations. Set up and verify everything in a safe, non-show state—not during a live performance.

01 / BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Choose the device that stays Primary.

  1. Install or update HOG Link from Google Play on compatible Android devices. Use matching versions across your Primary and Workstations.
  2. For paid features, open Menu → Account & Plans. Enter your email, tap Email a passwordless sign-in link, and open the email link on the same device. Choose the plan appropriate to your workflow and review Google Play’s terms before subscribing.
  3. Connect Hog’s HogNet interface and all HOG Link devices to the same local network. Do not use FixtureNet for this control connection. Guest/client isolation or a VPN may prevent local communication.
  4. Back up your Hog show and protect important HOG Link Show Profiles. Keep the Primary powered and connected while it serves other stations.

This guide follows the standard Primary-hosted setup. Limited direct-Hog Workstation mode is a separate fallback; it does not retain the Primary’s shared assignments, locks or synchronized feedback.

02 / ON THE HOG

Point feedback at your Primary.

  1. In HOG Link, open Menu → Hog Connection and note the Primary phone/tablet’s local IPv4 address.
  2. On Hog, press or click the Hog button → Network. Highlight the console or Hog PC process running the show, then open Settings → Open Sound Control. Labels may vary with Hog OS.
  3. Set Hog’s OSC Output IP to the Primary device’s IP—not the IP of a paired Workstation.
  4. Match both port directions using the normal starting arrangement below.
  5. Select Apply, then OK, and close Network settings.

These are starting defaults, not requirements to override a correctly configured show. If different ports are already in use, both ends must agree.

03 / ON YOUR ANDROID PRIMARY

Select Hog. Confirm both directions.

  1. From Menu, choose Primary — Hog connection + Bridge Host in HOG Link Setup and tap Save Role. Normally use one Primary for this Hog OSC peer. Do not approve an additional Primary unless intentional.
  2. Open Menu → Hog Connection. Confirm the phone IP matches Hog’s OSC Output IP.
  3. Leave Automatically Discover enabled for normal setup and start detection. Operate a safe control on Hog if it is quiet. Detection listens for Hog feedback; select the correct Hog explicitly when it appears.
  4. For manual setup, turn automatic discovery off, enter the Hog address in Advanced OSC Setup, and save. Confirm the displayed Send and Receive ports.
  5. Wait for Hog feedback confirmed. A Wi-Fi or Primary connection indicator alone is not proof of Hog feedback.
  6. Verify one safe, intended control in a non-show state. With Pro, the guide’s Programmer check is available: enter a harmless test sequence, confirm it appears exactly once on Hog’s command line, and confirm returned feedback in HOG Link. Basic does not include the Programmer page; verify an intended Basic playback control and its supported feedback instead.

04 / SHOW XML · PRO

Export from Hog. Import into HOG Link.

This brings show information to the device. It does not replace Hog show backups, write imported data back to Hog, or execute imported macros.

On Hog

  1. With the desired show loaded, insert a USB drive or choose a location accessible from Hog PC.
  2. Open Setup → Shows → Current Show → Export Show. Select the required objects if prompted, choose the destination and complete the export.
  3. Wait for completion, then transfer the XML to the Primary Android device using a trusted adapter or transfer method. Keep sensitive show data private.

Export availability and wording depend on Hog OS. See ETC’s show export/import guidance. Older category exports include Fixture/Patch XML and Cuelist XML.

In HOG Link Pro

  1. Choose or create the Show Profile for this show.
  2. Open Menu → Import → Import Hog Show XML, then choose the XML in Android’s file picker.
  3. Review the preview and summary. Check show identity and expected fixtures, palettes, Cuelists, cues, Scenes, Batches, pages and assignments.
  4. Choose Import into HOG Link and wait for success. Inspect the resulting show information before using it.
  5. On paired Workstations, check that shared data and assignment choices synchronize from the Primary. Receiving shared XML does not require each Workstation to originate its own import.

05 / ADD A WORKSTATION

Pair once. Reconnect securely.

  1. On the Primary, confirm Hog feedback and open Workstations Setup → Add Workstation. Keep the temporary six-digit pairing code visible. Basic supports up to 2 hosted Workstations; Pro supports up to 5.
  2. On the second device, join the same network, choose the Workstation / Secondary role and save.
  3. Open Workstation setup and select the correct discovered Primary. Enter a clear device name such as “House Lights” or “Backstage”.
  4. Enter the temporary code and tap Pair This Device. If the code has expired, generate another on the Primary.
  5. Confirm a secure Primary connection on the Workstation and that the Primary lists it as connected. Close the pairing window when finished.
  6. Open the assigned Workstation page. Check both Primary connected and the separate Hog delivery status. Saved pairing should reconnect on later launches.

The pairing code creates trust. The separate Full Remote PIN authorizes broader access or temporary editing; it is not the pairing code. Unassigned controls remain inactive.

06 / CONFIGURE THE STATION

Give every control a clear purpose.

  1. On the Primary, open Workstation → Setup / Primary Workstation Management. Choose Create Primary Page and use a purpose-based name.
  2. Open Bridge Host Assignments for the selected page or station. Choose the faders/button stacks and required playback controls, then tap Apply Layout.
  3. Select a control slot and its assignment type: hardware/user/function key, playback action or fader, Scene, Batch or Cuelist recall.
  4. Select the intended master or object number. Imported XML may supply an object’s name and number. Label the control clearly. For a Cuelist, leave the cue blank for the list action, or enter a tested cue number only when that exact cue is intended.
  5. Tap Save Slot. Clear unused slots. Open the page on the Workstation and verify labels, positions and assignments before operating it.

Manage trust and access

The Primary can set fader priority, locks and inactivity lock behavior, and revoke devices that should no longer be trusted. Higher fader priority wins; at equal priority, the first active device retains control until movement stops. An authorized edit session uses the separate Full Remote PIN and ends on lock, disconnect, role change or backgrounding. Do not bypass certificate-change warnings—verify the Primary and pair again when appropriate.

07 / WHEN SOMETHING DOESN’T CONNECT

Check the direction that is missing.

No Hog detected

Check the Primary IP entered as Hog’s OSC output, the Receive Port, local network access and guest/client isolation. Operate a safe console control during detection. Another application must not own the same receive port.

HOG Link hears Hog, but does not control it

Check the saved Hog destination, selected role and Send Port against Hog’s OSC input. Ensure automatic discovery has not selected a target you did not intend. If the normal reciprocal arrangement fails, use Swap Send / Receive Ports & Retry and repeat a safe two-way check; do not randomly change ports during a show.

Primary connected, Hog feedback stale

The Workstation-to-Primary connection can be healthy while Hog feedback is stale. Check Hog’s output destination, network and the Primary’s Receive Port before relying on feedback.

Workstation page empty

Create/select a shared Primary Page and assign its controls on the Primary. Unassigned slots are intentionally inactive. Verify pairing, the saved role and host availability.

Automatic, Timecode, Clock or Chase instead of a cue number

This is deliberate limited-feedback behavior: Live cue position unavailable — check console. HOG Link does not synthesize internally advanced cue positions.

Sign-in or purchase restore trouble

Confirm the email entered in Account & Plans, check spam, and open a fresh passwordless link on the same device. Restore using the original HOG Link account and the owning Google Play account. Contact Stephen if a purchase cannot be applied; do not buy again merely to work around an account mismatch.

08 / DIRECT-HOG FALLBACK

Use the fallback deliberately.

Reconnect to the secure Primary first where possible. Direct mode does not retain secure Primary assignments, locks or synchronized feedback, and existing plan limits still apply.

  1. In Workstation setup, tap Direct Hog Fallback. In Connect Directly to Hog?, verify the Hog address, Send port and separate Receive port. Do not assume a prefilled destination is still correct.
  2. Coordinate with the console operator. Commands go to Hog’s OSC input. For feedback, Hog’s OSC Output IP must target this phone and its output port must match the phone’s Receive port. Do not redirect another operating Primary’s feedback without agreement.
  3. Read and tick the confirmation, then tap Use Direct Hog Mode. Secure Primary connection is paused. Use only the operating pages available in your plan; limited Free direct mode does not unlock full RFU or Pro tools.
  4. To switch back, tap Return to Secure Primary. Direct sending stops and discovery resumes. If feedback was redirected, coordinate restoring Hog’s output to the Primary. Check the assigned page and both connection directions before resuming.
